Martin Virgo Announces Debut Solo Album

by coldwarnightlife

Composer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Martin Virgo has announced the upcoming physical release of his debut solo album, Ghost Piano, scheduled for August 21, 2026, via Virgo Records. While the physical CD version is slated for late August, the digital release is currently available through Bandcamp.

Virgo, best known as the founder of the 1990s trip-hop group Mono and for his contributions to works by Björk, Massive Attack, and Alanis Morissette, recorded the album as a departure from digital production. The 11-track collection was recorded live on a Steinway Model B acoustic grand piano, representing a minimalist approach inspired by classical and minimalist composers such as Erik Satie, Claude Debussy, Frédéric Chopin, Philip Glass, and Brian Eno.

Production and Collaboration Details

The record features minimal external instrumentation, with the notable exception of cellist Nick Cooper from The Michael Nyman Band, who performs on the album’s title track. According to Virgo, the project was designed to strip away modern production techniques in favor of a live, acoustic environment. A music video for the title track, “Ghost Piano,” has also been released alongside the announcement.
