Hunter As a Horse Releases Debut Album, Paradise Lost

by coldwarnightlife

South African electronic dark-pop project Hunter As a Horse, led by Western Cape-based musician and vocalist Mia van Wyk, has released her debut full-length album, Paradise Lost, via Metropolis Records. The release is accompanied by an official music video for the album’s title track.

Album Overview and Background

Following a decade of self-releasing EPs and standalone singles, van Wyk signed with Metropolis Records in early 2026. The 12-track record incorporates five previously released singles—’Lighthouse’, ‘Here’s To All The Ones’, ‘Paradise Lost’, ‘Obey’, and ‘Leviathan’—alongside seven new compositions. The material alternates between rhythmically pulsating electronic tracks, such as ‘Dark Sky’, and downtempo atmospheric songs including ‘Masochist’ and ‘Object’.

Concept and Production

The project reflects a shift in van Wyk’s creative approach following her 2025 EP Anathema, which served as her first connected body of work. Conceived as a continuous piece, Paradise Lost deals thematic material surrounding personal transformation, shadow integration, and psychological reflection. Over her career, compositions by Hunter As a Horse have been featured across multiple international television broadcasts, film soundtracks, and commercial projects.
