Chicago-based alternative rock collective The Joy Thieves have released their new single, “No Anchor,” featuring guest vocals from Chris Connelly (known for his work with Fini Tribe, Revolting Cocks, Ministry, and Pigface). The track is accompanied by a music video produced by Lumbra Productions and serves as a preview of the band’s upcoming full-length album, Apocalypse Pending, which is scheduled for release on June 5, 2026, via Armalyte Industries.
Collaborative Foundation and Sound
The Joy Thieves operate as a musical project centered around Chicago-based musicians and producers Dan Milligan and James Scott, also known as Joy Thieves Productions. The collaborative group regularly features a rotating lineup of members and touring musicians from notable alternative and industrial acts, including Ministry, Stabbing Westward, Killing Joke, Pigface, and Depeche Mode.
Thematic and Musical Direction
According to the group, “No Anchor” addresses themes of modern isolation, societal dissolution, and the erosion of a shared moral compass. In discussing the lyrical concepts, guest vocalist Chris Connelly stated that the song explores how modern pressures push people toward an isolated state without empathy, ethics, or forgiveness.
Musically, songwriter and producer Dan Milligan designed the track to mirror these themes through its composition. Milligan explained that he purposefully utilized ever-changing, off-kilter guitar riffs that stray from the song’s key as it progresses, creating an unresolved sonic atmosphere to reflect the lyrical content.
Release Details
“No Anchor” is the second single to be taken from Apocalypse Pending, following the previously released track “The Wrong End of Your Rifle.” The upcoming album is currently available for pre-order on Bandcamp and other digital streaming platforms ahead of its June release.
