Swedish production duo PAPA Sound have teamed up with Jamaican vocalist Kim Wierdo and Chilean reggae artist Balaguero on their new collaborative single, "Higher Power." Released on July 24, 2026, via the independent record label Icons Creating Evil Art, the track represents the first preview of the artists’ upcoming collaborative EP.
A Cross-Cultural Fusion of Dancehall and Urbano Latino
The single combines the structural rhythms of Jamaican dancehall with the contemporary influences of Urbano Latino. Sung in English, Jamaican Patois, and Spanish, "Higher Power" highlights the diverse backgrounds of its contributors. Lyricists Kimberley Francis (Kim Wierdo) and Balaguero Hernández focus their verses on themes of inner resilience, meditation, and gratitude, resulting in a cohesive multi-lingual dialogue set against heavy low-end grooves.
Production and Collaboration Background
Formed in 2020 by Paolo Albo and Patrik Arve, PAPA Sound has established a production style centered on heavy bass, reggae, and Afrobeat. Arve, widely known as a founding member of the influential Swedish band Teddybears, has previously collaborated with notable artists such as Beenie Man, Elephant Man, and Busy Signal. This project marks a continuation of PAPA Sound’s multi-year creative partnership with Kim Wierdo.
Adding a South American perspective is Balaguero, one of Chile’s prominent reggae figures. His contribution bridges traditional Chilean reggae aesthetics with modern Latin urban sounds, completing the global scope of the release.
