Montreal-based darkwave and electro outfit Sexsomnia have released their new single and accompanying music video, titled “Subspace.” The release marks the band’s first new output since their 2025 EP Forbidden and serves as the lead preview for their upcoming EP, Raven(ous), scheduled for release in early 2027.
Vocal and Production Developments
Departing from the band’s previous style of combining frontman Philip Faith’s vocals with guest female vocalists, “Subspace” features Faith as the sole vocalist throughout the track. The production incorporates the trio’s signature arrangement of dual melodic bass guitars layered over tribal electronic percussion and synthesizers. The track was mastered at The Cage Studios by Martin Bowes of British darkwave group Attrition.
According to the group, the song’s thematic focus explores states of sensory immersion and detachment. The accompanying visual component, which premiered via Post-Punk.com, integrates live performance footage with surreal imagery inspired by H.R. Giger.
Background and History
Formed in Montreal in October 2021 by Philip Faith alongside Pat Gaudette, Sexsomnia expanded to a trio with the addition of Michael K. Rien. The band’s sound draws structural cues from early post-punk, proto-goth, and contemporary electronic music, emphasizing melodic bass leads over synth-driven foundations.
Prior to “Subspace,” Sexsomnia issued their debut studio album, Transcendent, through French imprint Manic Depression Records in 2024, followed by the self-released Forbidden EP in August 2025.
