Nashville-based singer-songwriter Alicia Witt has officially released her latest studio album, titled Between Heaven and Earth. The new record serves as a tribute to Witt’s late friend and creative mentor, filmmaker David Lynch, with whom she collaborated on multiple projects over the course of four decades.
Produced by Grammy Award-winner Joe Henry, known for his work with Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, and Elvis Costello, the album explores themes of connection, grief, nostalgia, and intuition. The record blends piano-led jazz ballads with acoustic folk elements, featuring musical contributions from John Paul White of The Civil Wars. The album was recorded live with a full band in New York City over a four-day period.
Accompanying Music Video Release
To coincide with the album launch, Witt has also released the official music video for “You Just Do,” the sixth track on the record. The video was directed by filmmakers Joshua Britt and Neilson Hubbard. According to the announcement, the video visually explores themes of past relationships, personal trauma, and the process of forgiveness through a reflective lens.
Themes and Artistic Direction
The album reflects on the extensive artistic influence of Lynch on Witt’s career. Witt’s connection to the director dates back to her childhood casting in Lynch’s 1984 film adaptation of Dune, as well as her subsequent appearances in the original Twin Peaks series and its 2017 revival. Between Heaven and Earth is currently available for streaming and purchase across major digital platforms.
