Michael Oakley Announces Third Studio Album, Prologue

Toronto-based synthwave artist Michael Oakley has announced the upcoming release of his third studio album, titled Prologue. Scheduled for release on May 29, 2026, through the NewRetroWave label, the album serves as the follow-up to his 2021 release, Odyssey.

Prologue represents a shift in creative direction for Oakley, emphasising a return to synth-heavy electronic foundations, combined with European dance rhythms and classic synthwave arrangements. The project was recorded using a variety of vintage and modern digital synthesizer technology, aiming for a highly polished production standard.

Collaborations and Production

The album features contributions from several recurring and new collaborators. Singer-songwriter Ollie Wride returns as a key writing partner. The track “Memory Of You” was co-written and co-produced with James Meays of the project Missing Words, who also contributed guitar work. Additionally, the record features guest vocal appearances from Dana Jean Phoenix on “School” and Holly Dodson of the synthpop group Parallels on the track ,”Hurts Like Heaven.”

Release Details and Formats

Prologue will be made available across multiple physical and digital formats. Physical editions include vinyl LP, minidisc, cassette, and compact disc, which can be pre-ordered alongside digital versions via the official NewRetroWave Bandcamp store and various streaming platforms.
