Ian Pickering’s The Noise Who Runs on Release

by coldwarnightlife

France-based UK alternative-electronic artist Ian Pickering has released Re: GenX, the new album from his project The Noise Who Runs. The album was officially issued on May 8, 2026, via TNWR Records.

Background and Production

Pickering, a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who previously co-authored tracks for Sneaker Pimps and worked with Front Line Assembly, relocated from Hartlepool, England, to Lille, France, before establishing the project. Re: GenX follows his 2023 album Preteretrospective and the 2024 EP Come and Join the Beautiful Army.

The new album was mixed and mastered by Colin C at The Cell Studio. Lyrically, the album focuses on societal commentary, addressing themes of political failure and cultural complacency. Musically, Pickering incorporated more direct electric guitar arrangements into the demos to create a more immediate sonic structure.

Vocal Recording and Featured Tracks

While the project is based in France, Pickering chose to record the vocal tracks in Teesside, England, in January 2025 to align the vocal delivery with his regional origins. The primary focus track for the release is “Just The English Way,” which is supported by several other singles including:

  • “Commercial Road”
  • “Bang Bang”
  • “The Bodies Are Under The Bus Again”
